Most tiles must match their exact identical counterpart, including the suits of bamboo, circles, and characters, as well as wind and dragon tiles. Seasonal and flower tiles are the exception: any flower tile can pair with any other flower tile, and any season tile can pair with any season tile.
Strategy and clearing tips
Clearing a full board requires foresight so you do not run out of valid moves. Keep these tips in mind during your sessions:
- Target tall stacks first: Focus on removing tiles from the highest points of the pyramid. Tall stacks conceal many buried pieces that you will need later.
- Free long horizontal rows: Clearing tiles from the ends of long rows opens up movement options and unlocks pieces pinned along the edges.
- Scan before matching: When four matching tiles are visible, decide carefully which pair to eliminate first. Always choose the pair that reveals the most hidden pieces.
- Use tools when stuck: If you reach a dead end, use the built-in undo feature to backtrack a few moves or trigger a hint to spot overlooked matches.
